Constellation Dogwood (Cornus x ‘Rutcan’) Constellation Dogwood (Cornus x ‘Rutcan’) is a standout hybrid from the Stellar Series developed at Rutgers University. Combining the strengths of Cornus florida and Cornus kousa, this disease-resistant flowering dogwood produces a spectacular late spring floral display and maintains a clean, symmetrical habit throughout the growing season. Distinctive Features ‘Constellation’ is known for its profusion of large, overlapping white bracts that bloom in late spring. Unlike native dogwoods, which bloom earlier, this variety fills the seasonal gap with long-lasting flowers that cover the upper canopy in a dense, star-like pattern. Its dark green foliage stays healthy through summer and turns rich shades of red and burgundy in fall. This sterile cultivar does not produce fruit, keeping the tree clean and tidy year-round. The upright, broadly spreading form matures into a well-rounded silhouette, ideal for prominent landscape positions.
